A Snowboarding Trip To Remember

Yesterday Rocky, Sommer and I went to Mt. High for a fun day of snowboarding. Sommer had never been snowboarding before so we thought it would be a good time to spend a day at the slopes. It was a beautiful day, on the warmer side, but the snow was so pretty and the mountain was still white from last weekends rain storms.

Sommer and I started the day by taking a beginners snowboarding class so that Sommer could learn some of the basic skills before we headed up the lifts. It was fun. We met Rocky for some lunch and a moment to rest from the very physical class and then headed back to the lifts for some more boarding. We did a couple of runs down the mountain and decided that we should head home soon, but we could do one more run. We go up to the top of the mountain and Rocky wanted to do some jumps before we left so I headed down without him and stopped by the jump to watch. I saw him hit the jump, land and his board went out from under his feet and he went down. I called out to him, asking if he was OK and he rolled over and yelled "I broke my arm" (well he yelled that with some added language that I will not repeat). I flagged someone down and he helped Rocky while I carried his and my board down the mountain, which isn't easy when one of the boards is bigger than you are!!

We got him to the nearest hospital, which was 25 miles away and waited for what seems like forever to get in. They took some x-rays and found out he broke his arm in 3 places. They put it in a fiberglass splint until the swelling goes down and next week he will get him cast. Now we have 6-8 weeks of recovery ahead of us...I guess no more snowboarding trips in our near future.  Here are some pictures of our dramatic day:

It all started off so nice.

Snowboarding isn't that hard...

Well, maybe it's a little harder then I thought...

Ok...this is hard!!!

Taking a break and eating some lunch.

Right before the faithful jump!

This is what a broken arm looks like...

you can see 2 of the 3 broken bones in this x-ray.
